How To: Use the Colour Guide in the 2026 Journal

Stuck with how to use the ‘colours’ section in each month of your journal? Don’t worry! The Journal Club is here with personalised colour scheme suggestions for each month. It’s fun to match each theme to a cool colour guide! Try seeing what range of colours you have, and plan your colour schemes around that. Feel free to take our suggestions into your journal, or use them to come up with your own! If you still haven’t got your official 2026 journal yet, be quick! They won’t be restocked once they’re sold out, so make sure to pick one up while stocks last!

January - Abstract Shapes

This fun, abstract theme offers the best chance to go super bright with your colour guide! January can be a really gloomy month, so what better theme to brighten up each cloudy day? Use the abstract shapes as markers for each colour, making sure you have a smile on your face each time you open up your journal.

February - Sweet Treat

February’s scrumptious theme, Sweet Treat, is all about treating yourself to a little something. In a month so focused on romantic love, try taking some time for yourself, to show you how loved you truly are. While it’s fun to keep with the traditional pink and red theme, we’ve gone for something more representative of the ‘Sweet Treat’ theme. Hopefully this fills you with ideas of buttery, flaky pastries, cream-filled cakes, and ripe berries, all ready for spring!

March - Botanical Garden

One of our favourite themes in the 2026 Journal is March’s ‘Botanical Garden’. Perfect for spring, this theme features lush foliage and secret gates, making a portal into a green world. Why not try visiting your local botanical garden to get some inspiration for your own colour guide? We’ve gone with a mostly green theme, interspersed with hints of colour to represent different flowers.

April - Laundry Day

Although April’s ‘Laundry Day’ theme might remind you of your chores, it’s also a fun theme to start looking forward to warmer days! There are washing lines full of socks, bikinis, t-shirts, and sun hats, marking a look towards summer. Try looking in your own wardrobe to get some inspiration for this colour guide. Pick your favourite bikini or pair of trunks and theme your own journal colours around them! Maybe you’ve got a super fun floral pattern, or some funky shapes? Use them for your own inspiration!

May - Picnic in the Park

For May we’ve chosen a cute ‘Picnic in the Park’ theme. As the warmer weather continues into the start of astronomical summer, we love going for picnics outside with friends, and we’ve chosen this theme to reflect that. Journaling outside in summer is one of our favourite months! Try using this month's colour guide as inspiration for your own journaling: set up a fun blanket outside, organise all of your journaling materials, and get a fun drink to keep you hydrated during your journaling session.

June - Sharks and Rays

This month’s theme, ‘Sharks & Rays’, is our founder Kira’s favourite in the 2026 Journal! This aquatic theme lends itself perfectly to a blue and green colour guide. The underwater sea creature vibe is so calming, and can provide an oasis to keep your journaling peaceful and mindful.

July - Dinner Party

July’s ‘Dinner Party’ theme was inspired by the recent trend on social media of holding fun dinner parties! A fun, low-effort way to catch up with friends, these dinners focus around great food and even better company. This theme also has all the different items that you could have on your table during a dinner party - think buttery lobsters, full wine glasses, and plates stacked high with fruit and veg. Our suggested colour theme reflects this variety, going for something super colourful to inspire you!

August - Sunflower Fields

August’s journal theme reflects sunflower season, which occurs in August! This month is the best time of year to visit a sunflower field, as they’re in bloom from late July to early September. Our classic colour guide reflects the deep yellows, and greens that you’d find in a sunflower field. Feel free to copy this, or come up with your own theme based on your sunflowers!

September - Stamp Collector

September’s ‘Stamp Collector’ theme is something a little bit different for The Journal Club! Echoing the stickers you can buy with our pre-made Junk Journal, this theme has so many opportunities for different colour guides and vibes. The stamps also fit in with the back-to-school atmosphere of September, as so many people do a massive stationery haul to get in the spirit of September!

October - Checkmate

Avada-TextAndImage__Image
This October we’ve moved away from a classic Halloween theme to our monochrome ‘Checkmate’ theme! The weather getting colder lends itself perfectly to cosy board game evenings, and what better game than chess? Inspired by Netflix’s smash hit ‘The Queen’s Gambit’, we’ve gone with a monochrome theme with pops of colour, reflecting Anya Taylor Joy’s incredible outfits in the TV show.

November - Roller Disco

After the muted colour scheme of October, November’s ‘Roller Disco’ theme is perfect for a super fun colour guide! Try taking inspiration from the 80s, using vibrant blues, purples, and pinks to create a funky spread. Use the mirrorball at the centre of each spread to crack out your metallic pens, or maybe even treat yourself to some new glitter stationery to celebrate getting to the end of another hard month!

December - Holly Wreaths

The final theme in the 2026 pre-made journal is December’s ‘Holly Wreaths’ theme! We’ve kept it as simple and accessible as possible, with lots of greens and reds to evoke the Christmas spirit! This time of year is perfect for snuggling up with a hot drink and reflecting on the past year in your journal.

We can’t wait to see what colour guides you come up with in your journal! Try making your own using this website, linked here. Make sure to tag us @_thejournalclub_ on Instagram when you show off your spreads - we’d love to see them all. Hopefully our themes have inspired you to create your own. Happy Journaling!
