For Couch Potatoes: ‘A Movie’ spread

How It Works: grab your ticket from a movie you've seen recently, and use it as the centrepiece of your spread. If you don't have any physical tickets, don't stress! Either print off a sample online, or draw your own. Add some fun items into your collage, such as the logo of the film company, photos of the lead actors, and maybe even a drawing of the snacks you had.
Make It Extra: you could create a collage of a movie theatre, using red paper for curtains and anything yellow for the lights! Maybe even make it interactive, adding a secret flap under one of the seats with a review of the movie written underneath...

For Foodies: ‘A Meal Out’ spread

How It Works: use your receipt from the meal as the basis of your spread. Do some doodles inspired by the theme of the restaurant (eg. cherry blossoms for Japanese food, the Eiffel Tower for French food, pints of beer for German food), then include a photo of whoever you ate the meal with. Try finding pictures of similar food from magazines or newspapers, and layer them together to create a collage of your meal!

Make It Extra: include a photo (or drawing) of the menu, adding fun patterns and doodles to the meals you enjoyed, and crossing out any you didn't

For Travel Enthusiasts: ‘Mode of Transport’ spread

How It Works: while you're stuck at home trying to keep cool, think back to a time when you went on a fun, new mode of transport. Maybe you rode the tram in Manchester, took the Paris metro, or tried an electric scooter! Theme your spread around both the place you visited, and the transport you took. Maybe use the colour scheme of the bus/plane/tram/etc to inspire your spread.

Make It Extra: a ticket is the easiest piece of 'junk' to use for this spread, but if you forgot to keep any, try using a postcard. If you're feeling crafty, try making a mini mode of transport from things you have lying around!

For Arts and Craft-ers: ‘Something That Makes You Happy’ spread

How It Works: try taking a piece of fabric from a recent sewing project, or a bit of scrap paper from a craft session. Combine it with a diary entry about the craft, talking about why you made it and what the process was like. Add a drawing, photo, or collage of the final product, and you're all set!

Make It Extra: you could even try making a mini version of your project to decorate the spread

For Social Butterflies: ‘Time With Friends’ spread

How It Works: host a journaling party and encourage your friends to bring supplies! Things like lace, ribbon, stencils, old books, and magazines are perfect for adding to collages, creating a cute memory of good times spent with friends.
Make It Extra: use magazine and newspaper clippings of people to create versions of your friends! Try to make them as accurate as possible, finding photos of people with the right hair, skin, and eye colour.

We hope you’ve been inspired by our recommendations for your junk journaling spreads. If these haven’t hit the mark, have a look at our sticker sets included in our Ultimate Junk Journal for more ideas, or feel free to explore the creators mentioned in this article. Happy journaling!
